Ram Narayanji was a writer, editor and translator with an enviable knowledge of multiple languages, viz. Hindi, English, Urdu, Persian and Sanskrit.

He was not just prolific but also an expert on very many subjects as his writings ranged from a comprehensive history of 20th century Rajasthan to his reflections as a social worker, his experiences with Gandhiji and Nehruji, a volume of interviews with Nehruji, a biography of Anjana Devi, to name a few. Some of his well-known books include Bapu: Meine Kya Dekha, Kya Samjha? (1954; translated in English as Bapu: As I Saw Him), Nehruji: Apni Hi Bhaasha Mein (1958; translated in English as Nehru: In His Own Words)
